Sun-X has over 40 years experience in supplying and installing solar films, safety films, security films, ultraviolet filter films, privacy films, manifestation films and traditional blinds.
These help to control solar gain, glare and heat loss, and provide safety and security in case of breakage.
We work to British and European standards including BS6206 and BSEN12600, which applies to safety films for terrorist bomb blast protection.
We underpin this with an unparalleled knowledge of our sector.
In the 1950's, before the development of the wide range of polyester window films available today, the American chemical company Dupont developed a clear alkyd resin liquid which could be flow-coated over the existing window glass.
A variety of coloured tints: green, grey, gold, blue or rose coloured powders could be added to the base liquid to provide a glare reducing coating which proved to be very popular in both the American domestic and commercial markets during the 1950's and 60's.
Distributed by SUN-X International Inc. based in Houston, Texas, the process came to the attention of a recently retired member of the 'Sharps Toffee' family who set up SUN-X GB Ltd in the late 1950's with an office in Mincing Lane, London, and began marketing the process in the UK.
An off-shoot of interstellar travel over 30 years ago, it's essentially a polyester sheet, with an adhesive backing which bonds to glass.
Sun-X has been applying window film since its inception, and even treating windows prior to this.
While dark reflective films will provide maximum heat reduction, there are now available some extremely effective 'clear' non-reflective solar films, making them ideal for listed buildings, or where high light levels are required.
Solar Film - in a commercial context, it can pay for itself in as little as three years, based on energy savings on heating & cooling systems.
Ultraviolet radiation, the main cause of deterioration of fabrics, furnishings and paint media, can be can be virtually eliminated with an application of Sun-X MT90 Clear Ultraviolet Filter to the existing window glass without altering the external appearance of the windows or affecting visibility in any way.
In museums, art galleries and historic houses, where reduction of lux levels is a priority but where a tinted light-reducing filter is aesthetically or architecturally unacceptable, we recommend the use of Sun-X Traditional Cap & Rack, Check Action or Flange-End roller blinds.
