read more › I started the business in Hebden Bridge in 2003 as Hebden Renovation Company Ltd. In 2015 I moved to South Yorkshire and relaunched as CIDA Wood Design Limited. My ethos has always been to offer a very personal service, to establish trust, and to be attentive to my client's needs. The client-centred approach means that I will meet with you to discuss your project, offer a written quotation, provide you with a timescale for completion of the project. I involve others in the work when I can and will always work with people who share similar interests in design, quality and client approach.

read more › Wood is a natural product with many different characteristics that can be used by the carpenter. Colour and grain are obvious, but stability, durability, texture, strength and hardness are equally important. Should the wood be freshly sawn or should it be dried to a very low moisture content to function in a modern home? I consider all of these things when choosing the wood for the design and for the product being made. I generally make monthly trips to my preferred timber yard to personally select the timber I will be using for you.

This service is free of charge unless otherwise stated. I will also provide an estimate for when I can complete the work. My quotations are fully inclusive and if there are any chargeable options these will be noted. When a commission has been agreed I will issue an invoice, normally for 50% of the cost of the work. The balance will be paid upon delivery of the work against a final invoice.

As all of the work is to commission, the actual cost may vary; so following a discussion with you I will provide a detailed quotation for your consideration. All prices exclude delivery, installation and ironmongery.

read more › These doors are individually hand made using traditional carpentry skills and modern construction equipment. They are constructed from Quartersawn Air Dried European Oak - for greater stability and the most attractive grain. This produces strong doors, best protected from the effects of moisture, and ones that will look good for years to come. The doors are completely bespoke, if you look at the images in the gallery you will see a range of design options, but I am able to work with you to produce exactly the door that you might want.

read more › The majority of doors that I produce are the 'cottage style' ledged plank door. I make these mainly in European Kiln Dried Prime Oak. The planks can be fitted with handmade rose head nails, wooden pegs, or screwed and plugged. The doors can be oiled or varnished and fitted with strap hinges and Suffolk Latches or tubular locks and butt hinges. I designed this for a bespoke series of holiday cottages on the Scottish Borders and I feel this door offers a more contemporary take on the 'Cottage' door.

read more › CIDA make wooden casement windows with high performance double glazed units as replacements for existing units or for new builds. The majority of windows I make are in European Oak or painted Sapele. The double glazing is with insulated, argon filled glass with Warm Edge spacer bars to give the highest performance from a double glazed pane. The opening windows have Aquamac weather seals routed into the frame and are mounted on friction hinges with a storm seal to protect against draughts. I am able to offer installation on the windows if required.

read more › I make solid furniture - mainly from hardwood but also using quality softwoods, such as Douglas Fir and Siberian Larch, and manmade boards where appropriate. My work is to a very high standard and is designed to last a lifetime. The wood I chose is carefully selected for its colour and grain. The work that I produce is bespoke and if it is to fit a particular space I will come and measure up in order that I can design something to fit perfectly. The furniture is made to last and I will use mortice and tenon joints instead of screws.

read more › I offer fitted furniture or built-in furniture for any room in the home. This type of furniture is not designed to be moved and so will be made to fit into spaces exactly. The majority of the pieces I make are built in the workshop and assembled on site. This enables me to offer the same high standard of accuracy and finish as with the freestanding pieces. Often the pieces are large and heavy and therefore careful consideration for transport and installation is critical. If you are interested in commissioning a piece I will come out and meet you to discuss the project and take measurements and provide you with a quotation.

read more › I work with a close friend and timber framer, Jaime Ward of JamCo Design, to offer larger timber buildings and structures. We are delighted to offer a timber framing service for Yorkshire, Peak District, Derbyshire and surrounding areas. Jaime has worked on many exciting projects that have featured on the BBC and Channel 4's Grand Designs. He has also acted as timber conservator to the Antarctic Heritage Trust, and has spent several seasons maintaining Scott's Antarctic huts. Jaime runs his business from Somerset but travels nationwide to provide his services.

read more › My kitchens are hand made and quite individual - what I offer are really well made quality kitchens: the cabinets are all solid pieces of furniture, not flatpack, all visible wood is solid hardwood, and all of the fittings are high quality and made to last. I offer different design options but there are some things that I cannot make and in general I do not offer kitchens heavy on ornamentation. These kitchens will not suit everyone but if you like the images shown on these pages then you should talk to me about designing something for you.

read more › The Scandi Kitchen is a contemporary kitchen that provides great storage options and which enchants through a relaxed combination of colour, texture and material. The design is based around a Birch Plywood Cabinet, this is a strong and highly durable cabinet offering an attractive minimalist aesthetic. The Birch Plywood has an attractive decorative edge which I varnish and leave exposed to give that mid-century modern feel. The Scandi Kitchen seeks to be the hub of the home - a space for cooking, eating, and sharing company.

read more › The Shaker Kitchen feels timeless. The abundance of attractive hard wood or wood painted with a rich eggshell oozes craftsmanship. CIDA Shaker Kitchens seek to combine solid wood with painted wood and freestanding furniture with built in furniture. A larder cupboard is a great way of storing food and adds a lovely feature to any kitchen. An island adds a central feature to the kitchen and provides a good area for cooking or eating. By carefully thinking about the design and then offering combinations of materials, colours, textures and cabinets the CIDA Kitchen is highly individual.

read more › American Black Walnut is a wonderfully sophisticated wood. The client wanted a 'Breakfast Bar' seating area and the wood combined with the chrome and leather stools and a granite worktop created a very modern feel. A chunky kitchen with open shelving. This could have been quite rustic, but I chose to use Douglas Fir to compliment the pitch pine roof trusses. By using an acrylic flat varnish it was possible to create a relatively contemporary 'loft style living' feel into the room. A very bespoke kitchen that my client designed - he trained as an architect and worked to exacting standards.

read more › Consisting of a Birch Ply tray housing a hardwood rack, this versatile product functions as a bread slicing board where crumbs are neatly captured. The rack can be removed and used as a serving trivet on the table. The tray can be used independently. The rack is oiled with Sweet Almond Oil and the tray is varnished with a wax finish varnish. This has a very clean and contemporary design. Consisting of a solid ash chopping board and a complimentary hardwood rack. The chopping board has a Scandi aesthetic, being a lightly oiled pale wood.

I am happy to show many examples of my work - this includes furniture, doors, windows, kitchen and timber framing. Please ask for a free no obligation quotation.
