Westend Glass & Glazing
Started in 2012 Westend Glass and Glazing moved in to our first factory in Altens, Aberdeen with a staff of 5, manufacturing double glazing units cut size glass, mirrors along with our glazing department. Slowly we built up a large customer base servicing areas from Aberdeen north to Inverness and south to Perth offering a very good service and a quality product the business just kept growing.

As we introduced more processes within the business including sandblasting, painted panels, mirror wardrobe doors etc. Our Glazing department was also growing in this time being awarded larger contracts, meaning we had to employ more glaziers to fulfill these contracts. In 2015 the growing demands of our customer base it was evident that we had to think about relocating to larger premises that would give us the room to further expand and the requirement for toughening our own glass.

With a toughening furnace now installed we toughen all glass up to 15mm thick, A new waterjet cutter that allows us to do all our own glass processing work including cut outs for sockets for our glass splashbacks, all cut-outs for frameless glass doors, it eliminates the need to purchase these products from other suppliers, allowing us to have better control of the quality of the product, shorter lead-times which gives all our customers the assurance that the glass will be of the highest quality and within a reasonable time frame.
Services
Westend Glass & Glazing Ltd was established in 2012 and began trading in our factory in Altens, Aberdeen.
Due to rapid growth of the business we have now moved in to purpose built premises in Cairnrobin, Aberdeen in 2017 enabling the business to meet the increasing requirements of our customers.
We are now the only company in the Aberdeen and the surrounding area who can manufacture, produce, supply and install all types of glass, making us your one stop shop.
In our purpose built factory we manufacture and process glass to produce toughened glass, double and triple glazed units, splashbacks, mirrors, safety glass, lead panels and various sandblasted designs.
We manufacture a wide selection of double and triple glazed units in our factory.
We can incorporate integral blinds, lead, sandblasted and coloured designs within the unit, tailor made to your specifications.
All our units are tested and fully compliant with the industry standard EN1279 parts 2 and 3.
We provide a wide range of safety glass.
We manufacture mirrors in 4mm and 6mm thickness.
We can supply a range of colours including silver, bronze, antique bronze and smoked grey.
We also provide many finishes including plain with polished edges, bevelled edges up to 40mm, painted, safety backed, sandblasted, brilliant cut and shaped.
Double glazed units comprise of two panes of glass with a vacuum between them.
The trapped air creates insulation that prevents heat loss or gain through the glass due to the air temperature being unable to penetrate the vacuum.
Triple glazed units have three panes of glass instead of two.
By having a third pane you will increase efficiency and reduce noise.
Due to current regulations set in place by local authorities, councils and conservation departments, Westend Glass now manufacture and supply 'heritage' double glazed units.
We manufacture toughened glass in a range of thicknesses, which include 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm glass.
We are the only toughened glass manufacturers in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
Toughened glass is processed by heat or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal annealed glass.
Tempering by design creates balanced internal stress which causes the glass to break into smaller granular chunks of similar size when broken instead of splintering into random jagged shards.
Leading is the application of an adhesive lead strip to the glass, which is done entirely by hand in our factory.
The leadwork can be produced to your own design or it can follow the more traditional patterns such as diamonds, rectangles and squares.
Another method of giving the appearance of several smaller panes is to insert back to back spacer bars.
These bars need to be covered internally and externally with a beading system.
When incorporating brilliant cut designs into sealed units, the diamond cut surface is sealed inside the unit so no specialist cleaning is required.
